Recent Findings

Finding #1:
Last week we went to dinner and a short run through Target for a few items. We have been pleased to be able to leave Annabelle out of her crate for several hours at a time when we went on short trips (1-2 hours) out of the house. However, this time was different. We came home to this:

Among the items destroyed (partially or fully) included several cardboard boxes, some optometry freebies (aka - "benefits") from the American Optometric Student Association, the front and back cover of the Consumer Reports Buying Guide, a brand new and previously unopened bottle of Rain-X (puncture hole in bottle caused it to spew everywhere during clean-up), various papers, 2 toothbrushes from our recent trips to the dentist, etc.

Finding #2:
Usually these are the types of birds we see in our backyard.

Yesterday I saw this in our backyard:

You can click on the photo to see it full size - examine the talons (impressive). We hear an owl outside every night that we have thus far been unable to photograph - but we have seen it's silhouette in the massive electrical tower in the field behind our house.

Finding #3:
Sometimes Annabelle looks almost human (and not in the "Yearbook Yourself" kind of way).

Annabelle looks worried about something in that last photo...

I can't imagine why she would be worried, after being able to stay at home all by herself for a couple of hours.
My vote for the bird of prey is probably a red-tailed hawk, since they can vary a lot in colors, etc., depending on sex and age. Too bad we can't see the tail. Dad says it's a chicken hawk ... if there is any such thing, I don't know. Audubon didn't mention that species.
