Coffee Filter Roses
I tried my first coffee filter rose today. The outer petals all fell off at once and I had to just guess which ones went where, but it turned out okay. I need to refine my painting technique, and perhaps actually look at actual flowers for inspiration. Overall, I think it is pretty good for the first attempt. It needs some leaves... (and thorns?)

Beautiful!!!
... that's amazing. I bought some tape and wire but haven't tried yet. This could become a very lucrative side business ... Leaves might be okay, but I don't think thorns are necessary ... does it take hours? And what kind of watercolor paint did you use, the cream kind?
The woman that originally made these sells them for $75 each (mommymakesroses.com). I used the cream or paste watercolors. It has a pattern for leaves, but called for "specialty paper". I made another one (not painted) last night while watching dateline. Traced out 2 complete patterns on the coffee filters, cut out one and assembled it in less than an hour. Painting is pretty fast, but must dry "overnight" (though I didn't wait that long).
where in the world did you two hear about this?
martha stewart, by accident. she was talking about coffee filter roses being their most popular download - i had no idea, so i looked it up. video and templates, etc.
