Puppy ER
Here are a few photos of Annabelle's injury (Saturday night). Best we can tell she ran into the side of an old bench with metal slats and sliced herself open. Poor girl yelped and yelped, up until the point Danny picked her up. Then she was silent and limp.

Immediately after her return from Dr. Don's office.

Close-up of the injury site on Day 1 - just after surgery - with her industrial strength sutures.

Close-up on Day 5.

What a Day (or Two)
The bad news is Danny noticed a dent in my driver's side passenger door.
The good news is that the damage is nothing major, just annoying.
The bad news is my hard drive is fried. Got the awful "click... click..." Might have something to do with a lamp oil spill and/or years of use/abuse. So I have no computer/internet on my own. Have to wait for Danny to get home from school with his laptop to satisfy my internet addiction.
The good news is Danny backed up all my files (multiple DVDs) up through Nov. 12 when another problem prompted us to act quickly! So all I might have lost is since Nov. 12.
The bad news is the heavy rains came through the back door and ruined some of our laminate flooring and we're having a horrible time trying to find replacement parts (without paying $200 shipping for $100 worth of goods).
The good news is --- well, I'll get back to you on that.
____
UPDATE (11 Dec):
Danny was able to order one box of flooring and two trim pieces via a local flooring store. Should have them by Tuesday.
Dad offered a slightly used (23 days, he says) laptop to help relieve the computer mess.
Still have that dent in the car - looks slightly worse in the outdoors compared to in the garage.

Elana's self-portrait

This was done entirely by Elana -found it on her art table. She proceeded to tell me about all of her favorite things (stickers) that she included as part of her self-portrait. BTW, the clackers are Papaw's false teeth...giggle!

The Theme of This Story = The Number Ten
Today was Annabelle's 2nd vet visit.
It cost 10 times as much as our first visit - but she's now microchipped and we got some heartworm/flea preventive (Sentinel) for the month.
In the past two weeks, she has gained 10 pounds. That's right - she's nearly twice the dog from when we first met her.
*In this corner... weighing in at 23 pounds, the pooch with the smooch, the mutt with the strut, the dog with the blog... Annnnnn-aaaaaa-bellllllle*

This guy knows how to apologize
Democratic Rep. John Murtha said Monday some of his constituents in western Pennsylvania are "rednecks" and the entire region just five to 10 years ago was "really redneck."
The comments come one week after he called his own constituents "racist" in an interview with his local newspaper.
"What I said, that indicted everybody, that's not what I meant at all. What I mean is there's still folks that have a problem voting for someone because they are black," Murtha said.
Murtha said the history of southwestern Pennsylvania is teeming with racism. "This whole area, years ago, was really redneck," he told WTAE-TV Pittsburgh.

First Vet Bill
We took Annabelle to see Dr. Speth (DVM - Esla's husband) yesterday. She's in good health and up-to-date on all the shots already so it was mostly just to get her established. The only things we had done was suture removal, nail clippings, and got a rabies tag. Her current weight = 13.2 lbs. She was really good in the waiting area - and she's perfected the sneak-away low crawl (it was hilarious). The only barking was when a 3 year old black lab came bounding into the lobby from the back. Total cost of her first vet visit... $6. That's right. We only paid for the little rabies tag that goes on her collar.

Learning the Crate

Haven't quite got the idea of this bed yet
Danny's been working hard and patiently with training her to use her crate, sit, lay down, go potty, go for a walk, etc. She's learning so much...
We really need some sort of video device so you can see her silliness. She's a great player - loves to run in random circles for no apparent reason. She's also becoming a sweetie when it is time to rest or get a belly rub.

Annabelle
We've adopted a pup. She came for a house visit today and never left. Annabelle is about 3 months old and is said to be a Border Collie/Lab mix (Borador?). She's a cutie. Check out the black "goldfish" marking.
